On my second day in the Coachella Valley, I saw 34 bird species.
The day started off with a round of golf in the morning. The course was backed up so I ended up having time to snap a few photos while I waited to hit my shot. Some birds on the golf course (it was the palm golf course at the marriot) included these:
The goose honking in this photo is a male. He and another male had just had long fight, (I wasn't there for the whole time, but i watched the fight for a minute before it broke up) while a female had sat on a bush and watched. The male in the photo had a grip on the other males neck, and shoved the the male he was fighting under water to win the fight. When he had won, the female flew down and the new pair honked, the male more though than the female.
This bird is peering into the water looking for fish (the water is not visible in the photo)
Green Heron Building a Nest
I watched this bird fly from a tree, holding a branch to where she was building a nest. I saw the heron return to the tree and bring back more twigs multiple times.
I had some time to walk in the neighborhood after I golfed. it was now late afternoon. Here are some photos of a Verdin, a Rock Pigeon, and a hummingbird that had me puzzled.
This photo is a crop of the previous one
Hmmm... Who is that?
This hummingbird had me puzzled, but I now know that it is an early Black-chinned Hummingbird.
As I said before, I saw a total of 34 bird species on this day. Here is a list of those species:
Larus species (gull species) - most likley California Gulls, hard to tell because they were flying)
