Recent Birds - May 11 and 12, 2013

Posted by birder on Saturday, May 11, 2013
Last weekend started off with this Chipping Sparrow in Richmond. I had great views of this bird but I didn't manage many good photos.

The next day, Sunday, I participated in the Stanley Park Ecology Society's monthly bird count. I also did some birding before and after the count. I photographed the birds seen, which included these species:

Canada Goose
A highlight was watching some baby Canadian Geese under the eye of their parents.

Brown Creeper
Unlike most Brown Creepers I see, this bird was willing to pose for me.

Greater White-fronted Goose
Lost Lagoon and the rose garden in Stanley Park are great places to see Greater White-fronted Geese. Over that last few years I have seen white-fronted geese in those spots many times.

Great Blue Herons
Many Great Blue Herons were present at Lost Lagoon and at Beaver Lake.

Here's a bonus picture of one of the many Green Frogs seen. Stanley Park once had native Pacific Frogs, but they are now extirpated from the park.

Last weekend was a great weekend of birding!

Thanks for looking!
